Not sure if APEX Anesthesia is the right online program to earn Class A credits for NBCRNA recertification? With more options popping up every year it’s a tough choice where to spend your CME money.
APEX offers three different online courses depending on your individual goals and the opportunity to bundle all three programs into one package. I took a look at their Clinical Updates Course and review with you whether or not APEX Anesthesia Review is on top with their content.
The Program
Clinical Updates offers 20 Class A credits that can be completed at your own pace over the course of a year.
To earn one credit you have three easy steps to follow:
- Read a preselected original journal article from such sources as the AANA Journal Course, Anesthesia & Analgesia, ASA Publications and the British Journal of Anaesthesia to name a few.
- Read APEX’s Summary and Analysis of the article.
- Take a post-test consisting of 5 questions.
And you’re done. It’s really that simple.
Providing your AANA number during sign-up will allow APEX to report your credits directly to the AANA. One less thing for you to worry about with a busy life and career. You do also have the option to manually print a certificate and submit it.
Clinical Update is easily accessible on a computer, tablets and mobile devices. So knock out those credits anytime and anywhere.
The cost for one year of access and 20 Class A credits is only $199 leaving you lots of extra CME money to spend .
The Claim
APEX Anesthesia is owned and operated by CRNAs claiming they “created easy-to-use CRNA continuing education courses that will help you learn anywhere, anytime.”
And that’s exactly what they did.
Sign-up was easy and once you’re logged in, click the “Start Learning” button and you’re off to collecting credits.

The APEX Team does a great job of finding relevant content across a variety of sources I never would have had time to discover in my busy life. The material is applicable to everyday practice and presented in a manner that is easy to understand.
Retention of key concepts of each unit is reinforced by reading the journal article and then APEX’s summary and analysis of it. To further hammer home those points, the post-test questions are designed to make sure they stick.
Don’t worry about the post-test. You have 3 attempts to pass it, it’s open-book, and if you’re really stumped they have a “Hint” button to help. It might be my favorite button ever!
The design of the website is easy to navigate and easy to use whenever or wherever.
I used it at home on a large desktop and at the hospital on my phone to see if there was a difference in quality or experience. It was the same on both devices and I easily racked up the credits.
Final Thoughts
APEX is a bold name to select for a company, but their team developed and maintains a product well-deserving of a name to be on top. Offering a course at the right price that’s user-friendly with great content makes it a simple choice for collecting your anesthesia CEs.
